Gary S. Gottesman, MD, has been appointed Professor of Pediatrics and Medicine, with a part-time appointment in our division as of July 1st, 2021. An MD graduate of the University of Michigan, Gottesman completed his residency in Pediatrics at St. Louis Children’s Hospital in 1991, and a fellowship in Medical Genetics at WUSM in 1995. He then joined the faculty of the Department of Medical Genetics at Saint Louis University, where he served until he was recruited as Medical Geneticist in the Center for Metabolic Bone Disease and Molecular Research, Shriners Hospitals for Children in 2012, by Michael Whyte, MD, Center Director.
In that position, Gottesman has tangibly contributed to the patient care, research, and education missions of that world-leading center, resulting in the publication of an astounding number of articles on rare and genetically inherited bone disorders and skeletal dysplasias. In 2019, he was appointed as Medical Director of the Genomics Institute, Shriners Hospitals for Children. Gottesman is a well-known and highly esteemed colleague in our community and a habitual participant in our seminars and conferences. His addition to the division faculty enriches our academic community and broadens our range of clinical activities and expertise. Gottesman will continue developing and expanding the Adult Rare Bone Disease clinic; his unique, deep clinical expertise and dual appointment with Pediatrics and Medicine will allow him to provide top-notch, specialized medical care to patients and families with rare but debilitating skeletal disorders across the lifespan, setting our program as a new model of patient care in our field. He will also continue research efforts with Michael Whyte, Steve Mumm, and develop new collaborations with other faculty in our division and in Pediatrics. We are proud to welcome Gary Gottesman, MD to our division.
