Deborah Veis, MD, PhD, has been appointed to serve as the next editor-in-chief of the journal JBMR® Plus. Launched in 2017, JBMR® Plus is the premier, monthly, open access journal of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR). A companion to the internationally recognized Journal of Bone and Mineral Research (JBMR®), JBMR® Plus aims to improve global musculoskeletal health by publishing innovative research covering endocrinology, geriatrics, orthopedics and rheumatology. Veis was selected after a global editor search. She brings to the position a broad knowledge of the musculoskeletal field, exceptional leadership capabilities and several years of editorial experience with biomedical journals. Veis is the Director of the Washington University Musculoskeletal Research Center (MRC) Histology and Morphology Core, and Associate Director of the Skeletal Disorders Training Program and of the MRC. She also serves as attending pathologist for metabolic bone disorders. She has taken multiple leadership roles in the division and in the MRC to advance their educational and research missions. Veis’s research focuses on pathological bone loss in the context of infection and tumors, specifically on the interactions of the invaders (pathogens or tumor cells) with cells native to the bone microenvironment. Her five-year term as JBMR® Plus editor-in-chief will officially begin on September 1, 2021. We are proud to see her being selected for this prestigious leadership position.
